The 2023 CineBa Film Festival is supported by the National Film and Video Foundation Presidential Employment Stimulus Programme and the Encounters South African International Documentary Festival for the Encounters Community Festivals: Doc Activate Season 2023 programme.

Festival Programme

Our exciting programme includes four documentaries, festival talks, a film club launch
industry presentations, film discussions, and a documentary masterclass.

LOCAL SOUTH AFRICAN DOCUMENTARIES

FILMS

The festival is themed ‘Consecrecy’, which is a portmanteau of the terms conspiracy and secrecy. These many meanings hidden in plain sight are representative of the films we have selected, where political plots are carried out with public knowledge, but the mechanisations, motivations and culprits are a mystery. To paraphrase Khalil Gibran, these ‘consecrecies’ are like wine in a glass—the liquid is shown, but the spirit is concealed.
